Opened virtual exhibition dedicated to L. Tomašickis
This year marks 25 years since the death of the talented Latgale artist L. Tomašickis. To him is dedicated he virtual exhibition of Ludza Regional Studies Museum “Latgale – the love of my life”.
Commemoration of the victims of the 1941 deportations
On June 14, 2021, a commemoration event took place at the Ludza railway station, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the first mass deportations of 1941 that was organized by the Soviet Union after the occupation of Latvia.
Local people are invited to share memories
The year 2021 has been declared the European Railway Year in the European Union, therefore within the framework of this year’s European Cultural Heritage Days, Ludza Regional Studies Museum will be collecting materials about the East Latgale railway lines, which will result in a traveling exhibition. We invite locals to share their memories. Museum would also be happy to purchase materials (photographs, documents, objects) related to the operation of the railway in our region.

G. Tolordava exhibition
From September 18, 2020, G. Tolordava’s solo exhibition “At the mercy of the Sun and Light” will be on display at the Ludza Regional Studies Museum.
Altar painting restored
Altar painting ‘Christ with a goblet’ was restored in the time period from 8.06.2017 to 6.06.2018. The painting was made in 1871, the author of it is unknown. The restoration works were lead by Zane Stikāne, the master restorer, and it was sponsored by VKKF and Ludza Lutheran community. Over the time the painting had been severely damaged, the bottom half almost completely torn off, it was pierced through, sliced, suffered from humidity, and the canvas itself became very fragile.
The first personal art exhibition of G. Tolordava in Ludza museum
Doctor Georgy Tolordava began to paint back in his youth days. But, as the artist himself says, the eight years spent in Ludza were his most prolific years. In that time he’s made about a 100 artworks, depicting Latgale and Georigia’s landscapes, as well as a few still lives.
G. Tolordava’s personal exhibition will be opened in Ludza Regional Studies on 17th May, 2018. Everyone is cordially invited to visit the exhibition and get familiar with the artist’s artworks.
Georgy Tolordava was born on 31st May 1952 in Sukhumi (Abkhazia). In 1969 he gratuated Sukhumi comprehensive school and in 1971 went to Riga institute of medical Department of Medicine. He graduated it in 1977. From 1977 to 1980 G. Tolordava worked as an urologist surgeon in Ludza district central hospital. From 1980 to 1983 he acquired additional qialifications in urology residency of Moscow medical institute. G. Tolordava left Ludza in 1984 and went back to Abkhazia to work in Sukhumi as a urologist. In 1988 Tolordava received a patent for his invention – an instrument used for kidney surgeries. From 1991 to 1993 he worked as the president of Abkhazia Doctors Association. In September 1993 because of the civil war in Georgia he was forced to flee Abkhazia and move to Tbilisi, Georgia. From 1993 to 2008 he was the head of a private medical and diagnostics clinic Abkhazeti. In 2002 G. Tolordava received a docent rank of Tbilisi medical institute. In the same year he was also awarded with a Medal of Honour for organising the medical help during the civil war in Georgia. In 2009 G. Tolordava moved with his family to Ludza and works here as a urologist. In 2016 G. Tolordava published a book, Memoirs of Abkhazia refugee doctor.
Night of Museums 2018
Night of Museums is a traditional European cultural event when for one night in May museums opens their doors and offer special programmes to participate in them for free. The tradition began in France in 1999. This year, the year of Latvia’s 100 years jubelee, the Night’s themes are Cradle and Birth, which is a part of the country’s 100 years long story. It began in 2017 and will continue until 2021.
Every nation’s history begins with a cradle. Foundig of any country and the meaning of its existence is held in taking care for the cradles of a family and the nation. During the Night of Museums we celebrate those who create cradles, protects them and rocks them!
In May 19 2018 an event took place under the motto of ‘Let’s rock our good mood!’ The charge of positive energy was provided by the band ‘Dobranoch’ from St. Petersburg.

6 апреля 2018 года в 14.00 в сотрудничестве со специалистами Управления по защите природы состоится мероприятие “Отпразднуем День птиц в Лудзе!”. Участники мероприятия узнают много интересных фактов о птицах. Юные любители природы смогут поучаствовать в викторине о птицах, творческих мастерских и веселых играх, а также смастерят скворечник.
