Traditional holiday programs


The Ludza Local History Museum offers primary school students Latvian traditional events programs “Meteņi in Latgale farmstead”, “Easter in Latgale farmstead”, “Miķeļdiena in Ludza museum” and “Mārtiņdiena in Latgale farmstead”. Applications can be submitted a week before a celebration

 

“Meteņi in Latgale farmstead”. 

Duration of the program  — 60 min.

During the program, information is provided about the tradition of celebrating the Meteņi in Latgale – Meteņi days’ works, riding with a cartwheel, Meteņi day meal. Participants of the program learn the basics of knotting and creating linen mats, enjoy the fun mood of the Meteņi – a ride in the cartwheel, Meteņi day dinner and games..

 

“Easter in Latgale farmstead”

Duration of the program  — 40 min.

Participants of the program are introduced to Easter celebration traditions in Latgale – egg painting, swing hanging, folk songs and Easter beliefs. Participants of the program learn traditional ways of egg decorating and learn about the most important traditions of Easter celebration.

“Miķeļdiena in Ludza museum”

Duration of the program  — 40 min.

During the program, information about Miķeļdiena celebration traditions in Latgale is provided. Participants of the program are actively involved in the performances, plays and tasks of the Miķeļdiena.

“Mārtiņdiena in Latgale farmstead”

Duration of the program — 40 min.

During the lesson participants will get acquainted with Mārtiņdiena traditions, games, puzzles and tasks.
